Call For Proposals
Annodright invites you to submit your personal stories, poems, or letters to be included in the Untitled CBHG Anthology (print, ebook, and audiobook). Proposal deadline date: February 18, 2022
*the proposal form will ask for the proposed title and a BRIEF summary of what you will write (think 2-3 sentences)
This anthology builds on the work of Cocoa Butter and Hair Grease, but instead of being a workbook style to help move toward self-love through examination of Black women’s individual experiences, this book aims to bring together various stories which will inspire, educate, affirm, heal, and of course, entertain Black women. Sometimes we need to know that we are not alone on the healing journey, this book will help us remember.
Who is the author?
Aside from you, it’s me, Dr. Donna Oriowo, sex and relationship therpaist in the Washginton DC metro area. As you may know, I have created Cocoa Butter & Hair Grease through the work done in my practice, AnnodRight where we have a focus on how colorism and texturism impact mental and sexual health. Well, since Cocoa Butter and Hair Grease’s release in 2019, there have been more and more stories that I have had the honor and privilege to read. Those stories not only deserve to be told, but they are so needed.
Publisher
AnnodRight will be publishing this title. We are a Black owned and independent company. We will work to ensure that your work is ready for the publishing stages and have a great team to help get the job done.
Author & Audience Requirements:
This anthology is meant for Black women and should thus have pages of love notes, poems, letters, and personal stories from Black women. We want to make sure Black women know they are not alone in their experiences with colorsim/texturism/featurism and we want to make sure these stories are passed on to others. For me (Donna), this supports the Black Feminist Thought Framework, which at its core, is about Black women being able to tell their stories without white folk telling it for us. Our experiences and our truth are all the research we need.
Goal:
The goal of this book is to share stories, poems, etc. about how we have impacted in how we look at/think about our hair textures and skin tones, but ultimately in addition to sharing, we are hoping to give more folk hope. To see they are not alone and to see there is a space of freedom they can get to. Don’t worry though, if your story is not one about triumph, you don’t need to fabricate one. We will need to have these stories told, on record, for all to see.
Each author must agree to follow submission guidelines, adhere to deadlines, and also record their submission at the agreed upon time for use in the audiobook. But this time around, we just want to know what you’re interested in writing.
Submission type:
For the proposal: suggested title and 2-3 sentences summarizing what you want to write about
For the final submission: No more than 5 pages double spaced, size 12 font. (but this wouldn’t be due until March 31st, 2022)
